traditional chinese medicine
The power to heal already exists within you. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) aims to restore equilibrium within the body, unlocking your body's innate sense of healing. Originating in ancient China this system of natural medicine is now practiced in many countries across the globe. Based on the Taoist theory of Yin and Yang, two opposing yet complimentary forces that control and support each other, in order to maintain optimum health.
Acupuncture, herbal medicine and other traditional techniques (cupping, moxa, gua sha) are employed to encourage ‘free flow’ of Qi (energy) and Blood through pathways called meridians. It is believed that disease and disharmony occur when the flow of Qi and Blood becomes impaired, blocking the meridians, and causing stagnation.
Stagnation may present as a physical, mental/emotional or spiritual phenomenon. It is for this reason that doctors of TCM treat each case individually, taking into consideration the entire state of ones being. Emotional and physical wellbeing are seen as equally important for long term healing in TCM, one cannot exist without the other.
Doctors of Chinese Medicine in Australia are required to be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Melanie is registered with AHPRA and is member of Australian Natural Therapies Association (ANTA).
